Jan Fisher

For the last 40 years Jan has represented injured workers.  She is licensed to practice in both Kansas and Missouri and regularly handles workers compensation claims in both Kansas and Missouri courts. This is important in that many workers living in cities along the Kansas/ Missouri border may have the choice to pursue their claims either under the Kansas Workers Compensation Act or under the Missouri Workers Compensation Act.  Jan’s background allows her to evaluate the better forum for the claim.

In addition to workers compensation law, Jan also represents disabled workers in Social Security Disability claims.  It is important to coordinate a workers compensation claim with any other benefits available to the injured worker.

Jan has taught both workers compensation law and social security disability law at Washburn Law School. Jan also teaches other attorneys how to handle workers compensation cases each year at continuing education seminars.  Jan has published several articles on workers compensation topics in the KTLA Journal, the Missouri Bar Journal and the Kansas Practice Manual on Workers Compensation.  She has been recognized by the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association for her efforts in helping and educating other attorneys on workers compensation law.

Jan is the registered lobbyist for the Kansas AFL-CIO and regularly helps on the development of workers compensation legislation. In 2023-2024, Jan was part of the group of attorneys who drafted the 2024 amendments to the Kansas Workers Compensation Act.
